Albermarle Primary School, a
successful and popular school
in Wimbledon was seeking to
improve its cramped staffroom
facilitiies and provide better
offices for the head and bursar.
The School had been developed
in the 1960's as part of the
LCC schools programme and
comprised a mixture of single
and two storey buildings across
a sloping site.
A new school office was created
with a glazed hatchway to a
waiting area and with fitted
worktops and shelving to allow
the use of the space to be
maximised.

The original complex included
a caretaker's house adjoining
the other buildings and this
had been converted in more
recent times to provide a new
entrance and staff accommodation.
The house included an internal
courtyard which was one of the
few remaining areas of the site
into which the school could
readily expand.
Archadia's solution to utilising
this space included raising a
portion of the new roof to
provide very pleasant high level
daylighting whilst avoiding the
heat gain problems that would have
been caused by roofing the entire
courtyard in glass.
