Elizabeth Hart Court

Weybridge, Surrey

Remodelling Retirement Housing for Rosemary Simmons Memorial H. A.

In a leafy road close to the centre of
Weybridge, Elizabeth Hart Court had
been constructed in the 1970's in
and around an Edwardian house to
provide leasehold accommodation for
older people.

The original Edwardian building had
been converted into bedsits which
had been rented but were now
proving difficult to let. The building
was replanned and extended to
provide four self-contained one
bedroom flats and a new guestroom
built to modern standards
The kitchens in the new single
storey extension, although deep in
the building plan, were imaginatively
provided with natural light and
ventilation. This was provided
by means of roof lighting around a
valley gutter hidden from both main
elevations.

The new flats were released for
leasehold sale on completion of the
contract and sold without difficulty.
The development yielded a useful
profit for the association.
