Alan Morkhill House

St Marks's Road, North Kensington, London

Accommodation for frail older people for Servite Houses

Alan Morkhill House, on a busy road in
Kensington, provides accommodation
in a registered care home for frail
older people and managers.

The four storey 'U' shaped building
form encloses a densely landscaped
courtyard and provides flats with
views to the south or west over a
street or park.

The building is fully accessible and
details are designed to make life
easier and safer for older people.
Flats are in clusters on the upper floors
with dayrooms for dining and living in
small groups. Each cluster is defined by
doors and a unique colour scheme to
reinforce identity. Main meals are
prepared centrally. En-suite showers and
kitchens are provided in each flat to
encourage independence.

The interior is domestic in feel with
natural lighting and plain plaster
ceilings to the corridors.
(This project was undertaken by Patrick Manwell while associate in a South London practice.)
