Duchesne House is a registered residential care home but also very much a functioning and supportive community of Sisters. Archadia's brief was to make a number of improvements to the original 1970's building.
The additional residential accommodation was to provide eight new bedrooms with en-suite level access showers in line with the best current standards. By adding an extra wing, Archadia took the opportunity both to complete the courtyard nature of the original charming garden, and also to create a second landscaped area providing the new rooms with views and giving access to the outdoors from the communal meeting room.
Improvements were also made to the commercial kitchen to reduce the noise pollution, and to introduce more natural light into the dining area and many of the circulation spaces. The use of natural light to animate circulation areas was a theme of the project and much appreciated by the community.
