Boulters Lock Residential Home

Maidenhead Berkshire

Extension and improvements

Boulters Lock is a private residential
care home situated near Maidenhead
where the owners wished to expand
the accommodation and improve
facilities for both the staff and the
residents.

The first phase of this project consisted
of the conversion of existing manager's
accommodation into additional bedrooms
with en-suites to eliminate shared
bedrooms elsewhere in the building.

A new extension was designed to link the
additional bedrooms to the main building
and provide extra day space with views
over the garden.

Alterations have also been made internally
to increase the capacity of the dining
room and move it from the rear to the
garden side
The building is located in the Thames
flood plain and in a sought after
residential area and complex
negotiations were required to obtain
planning permission for the first phase.

Planning permission has also been
obtained without going to appeal for
a second phase involving further
development of an already tight site
to provide additional accommodation
in a new two storey section which
also extends over the existing single
storey (first phase).

This will bring the total number of
bedrooms to twenty-five and provide
assisted bathing, hairdressing and
staff accommodation, which will help
sustain the home's viability.
