Social housing

Nicholas Lodge

Mill Road, Esher

Move-on accommodation for the homeless Rosemary Simmons MHA

Nicholas Lodge comprises ten flats
arranged in a two storey building.
Entrances are off the two sheltered
and naturally lit circulation areas with
low maintenance finishes.
The new building continues the
existing building line on Mill Road.
The two entrances are visible
from the street but clearly
identified- as 'private' space.
The building set back from Mill Road
allowed- a row of self-seeded-trees
to be thinned and retained.

Shared facilities have been avoided
and accommodation is provided in
the form of self contained flats
offering better standards and more
flexibility in the longer term. Living
rooms are wide frontage with light
from two sides and face south or west.

Externally, ground floor units each
have a patio area while first
floor units have usable 2m wide
balconies. A gravel dressed parking
area is provided at the rear of the
building, over-looked by the flats.

The site was provided by Elmbridge
Borough Council in return for allocation
rights and on condition that a short
access road was put in to serve a
future development site behind.

Contamination was dealt with by
some removal and replacement of soil.
